Independence Day

As I reflect upon this wonderful land of opportunity, the United States of America, on this significant day of July 4th, I can't help but see it through the lens of heaven. This nation has been a place where dreams can become reality, where we have the freedom to pursue the visions that God has placed in our hearts. It is here that we dare to dream the dreams of God, envisioning and bringing forth things in the earth that no one has seen before.

Sometimes, fear holds us back from taking risks, from venturing into the unknown to get things right. However, amidst my own journey, I have come to understand that even in the midst of extreme brokenness, grief, and confusion, when we find ourselves in the valley, there are aspects of God's presence that can only be discovered there. Surrendering, rather than striving, births great faith. It involves giving everything to Him so that He can begin the process of rebuilding, with our focus solely on Him.

I must admit that I never would have chosen the path I find myself on today. The loss of Lindy Christopher and Kamryn shattered me in every way imaginable. For months, I couldn't even find the words to express my pain. But even in the midst of this profound brokenness, something unexpected emerged—Simmons3. Out of what seemed like a hopeless situation, God brought forth something remarkable. It has been awe-inspiring to witness what He can create from the most devastating circumstances.

In the face of such adversity, I refuse to surrender what I know about the goodness of God to the altar of human reasoning so that I can have an explanation of why something happened. I won't lower the standard of scripture to my level of experience. I choose to trust that God's word is true and that He remains unchanged throughout time—yesterday, today, and forever.

Now, does this mean that my heart doesn't ache for my children? Absolutely not. This has been the most challenging human experience of my life. Yet, Simmons3 has become my mission and my passion. The most incredible aspect of this endeavor is that I get to share the love of Jesus with people, with many being students. Despite everything I've been through, I want others to know that no matter their own struggles, we live in a great country, and serve an amazing God.

On this July 4th, I pray that the Lord would awaken within us a capacity for dreaming and desire that is sanctified and holy—a capacity that surpasses the natural and manifests the nature of God in this world. I am grateful for this great nation and for a mighty God who moves and works in our lives in ways that exceed and abundantly surpass anything we could ask or imagine if we dare to step out in faith and trust Him.

Today, I celebrate Simmons3, an embodiment of this unwavering faith. Happy 4th of July, and may we remember to be thankful for this remarkable country and for the freedom to share our faith and reflect God’s love.
